About this deal

Despite its design upgrade, the Fenix 6 doesn’t look hugely different when placed side-by-side with its predecessor, the Fenix 5 Plus. This is because the updates are rather minor. The Garmin Fenix 6 line comes in multiple models. At 42mm, the 6S is the smallest with the 6 (47mm) and the 6X (51mm) being the larger versions. Watches in the Garmin Fenix 6 range have received hefty price cuts in recent months (Image credit: Garmin) Design, display and battery life Design Lactate threshold (through analysis of your pace and heart rate, estimates the point where your muscles start to rapidly fatigue)

You should get 14 days' use out of the standard Garmin Fenix 6 in smartwatch mode before it needs recharging, but using the watch's GPS will drain the battery faster (Image credit: TechRadar) When you are ready to run, you can load this PacePro data and use it to monitor your pace in real-time. The display will show your target split pace, your current split pace, and how far off you are from your overall goal. You also can see the distance remaining on the current split. PacePro was immensely useful during my runs, keeping me focused on a single lap at a time instead of the total length of my run. It also helped me slow down on steep mountain runs allowing me to conserve energy on the inclines and make up time on the downhills. For mountain runners who want to take the guess work out of pacing, this feature is a godsend. Different watches in the Fenix 6 and 7 lines carry different price tags, with the basic models costing less than those with Sapphire crystal or Power Glass. However, all new Fenix 7 watches are more expensive than their older counterparts. The Fenix 6S also features the same TOPO mapping – and while it's a nice feature to have, we still have reservations about its usefulness and usability. There are a few takeaways here. First is what we always say: optical data is fine if you’re looking for a guide to your performance and your exercise – be it running, cycling, skiing, etc – is generally steady. What’s the difference between the Garmin Fenix 6 and the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro? The Garmin Fenix 6 Pro model includes PacePro, ski maps, and music capabilities. The Garmin Fenix 6 standard model does not.

The Fenix 6S uses the same Elevate sensor found on Garmin’s watches – and predictably, came out with the same results. If you’re focused on data – or you’re doing HIIT and want accurate HR results – use a chest strap. The Fenix 6S is compatible with ANT+ sensors. Fitness: Distance, time, pace, laps, swim stroke identification, VO2 max, recovery advisor, virtual pacer, calories, goal alerts, Elevate Heart Rate Monitor The watch calculates your V02 Max which can help determine training pace and race finish predictors (I love how much faith my watch has in me!).

It truly is a watch made for the adventurer. It might not be the prettiest out there, but this will be the last thing on the mind of those seriously considering investing in this device and looking to get the most out of it. You also get call alerts and notifications to the wrist. There's not that much screen space for reading messages but at least you won't miss anything. The best for power saving is the maximum battery mode, which will turn off most of the Fenix 6’s most demanding features, such as the heart rate sensors, music, phone notifications and GPS.
