About this deal

Carmen: I’m originally from Canada 🇨🇦 and have had an entrepreneurial spirit for as long as I can remember. I started my first business aged just six years old, making and selling Christmas wax ornaments to my friends and family – I think they knew then just how tenacious I can be! 🎄 David Waterhouse, the founder, has had an extraordinary journey to get to this point. He was a sailor on tall ships from a young age, was a lone farmer on Bodmin moor, completed a stint as a racing driver, was a music festival organiser and he now has a hotel in the Swiss alps, where the bier was invented. and Co. says the certification and rebrand will underpin its wider business growth plan, which focuses on partnerships with other ethical and sustainable drinks producers alongside the development of its core spirits range.

As with all its ciders, Thatchers Blood Orange Cider is gluten free, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It uses natural blood orange flavour and is free from any artificial sweeteners. Thatchers Blood Orange is Thatchers’ second citrus flavoured cider. In 2020, its Cloudy Lemon Cider was launched and has proven to be a big hit with drinkers. Laila: I gave birth to my son two months before the pandemic, so in a way, it has been lovely to have plenty of time with my little one. 👶 On the other hand, this pandemic has had a significant impact on the event industry. One of the main challenges was dealing with the constant uncertainty. 😔 Looking to the future, where do you see yourself and the business going? For 58 Gin, supporting the local community goes hand-in-hand with sustainability efforts. A recent partnership successfully combined both efforts, as Carman explains: “We linked up with Humble Crumble Londonin Spitalfields by donating gin-soaked (macerated) sloe berries for use in its sloe berry, strawberry and mint crumble. Essentially, we’re giving the berries another lease of life while supporting another business, which all aligns to our ethos: to do everything from the heart and to be a truly artisan, neighbourhood distiller.” Temi decided to celebrate by trying a real gin and tonic, and as she describes it, it was love at first taste!

In the years to come, they believe that drinks-led business models that target a resilient millennial audience will have an exceptional opportunity to thrive alongside reduced competition, given their low operational break-even levels, uncomplicated business models and high return on capital. Laila: Hoxton Arches is a rental gallery located in the heart of East London, and it is the perfect space to host a solo or group exhibition. 🖼 The Arch is also suitable for a wide range of events like weddings 👰, Christmas parties and product launches! What is your role, and what are the pros and cons associated with it? These canned wines from HUN are the UK's first fairtrade and vegan wines, and they come in red, white and rosé flavours. Established in 2014, the distillery in Haggerston was built from a desire to “to demystify distillation, craft a sustainable neighbourhood business, and to act locally and think responsibly,” according to managing director Carmen O’Neal. Inside 58 GinOn 21 May, Archie Rose released 1,000 bottles of the eau‐de‐vie, which sold out by the end of the week – including the presale of 100 bottles of the future Hunter Valley Shiraz Brandy, which will be launched in four years. It has rolled out new-look house gin and vodka bottles for hospitality venues, with eco-friendly refill pouches available. Meanwhile, a spirit refill service – hosted at a front-of-house distillery shop counter – will be a key component of planned upgrades to its premises, located beneath the railway arches in Haggerston. Carmen O’Neal, founder of 58 and Co. Laila: I’m a mum and an entrepreneur. I first decided to have my own company in my 30’s. I’ve worked in various positions such as sales assistant, personal shopper, commercial agent and art gallery assistant. 👩‍🎨 One day, after all these experiences, I decided I wanted to run my own business. Since 2014, I’ve been the director of Hoxton Arches. 🥳 What does your business do?

A classic vodka lime seltzer joins snazzy new taste pomegranate - which as its a super food means that you can enjoy a tipple and say you're doing it for your health, right? I think a huge part of us being able to ride the wave of the pandemic has been down to us being a small, adaptable business. However, we’re also an incredibly passionate team and as such we instantly came together brilliantly to keep things going every day! 🤗 At the core of 58 Gin's philosophy is sustainability and community engagement. They forage sloes for their English Berry Gin, repurpose apples that would otherwise go to waste for their Apple and Hibiscus Gin, and donate their waste botanicals to the local church garden. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they switched gears to produce hand sanitiser for NHS, key workers, care homes, and hospices, exemplifying their dedication to local and responsible actions. We know what we can do now,” Carmen says of her 58 Gin’s crazy year. “We’re just on the cusp of something pretty amazing.”As Carmen explains, “We do literally everything ourselves. We joke that we don’t do anything the easy way. It’s not fast, it’s not easy, but it’s true to the traditional roots.”

VCL Vintners is London’s leading whisky cask broker among millennial investors. Founded in 2010, they source and manage the finest investment-grade single malt whisky casks for their network of retail and institutional investors. VCL Vintners provides investment opportunities ranging from new-fill barrels to some of the oldest and rarest casks available. We wanted a drink that would capture the spirit of that lovely day. Drawing on old family recipes handed down to us, we created St Maur and we named it after our family heritage. We also gave it the colour of love,” said William. We love these retro-style cans of gin & juice, which are made with Dorset Dry Gin, and flavoured with apple and elderflower. At the start of 2020, the news was awash with reports on the devastating Australian bushfires. Homes were lost, wildlife was decimated and livelihoods were affected. Wine growers felt the repercussions of the wildfires enormously, with many crops lost due to smoke taint. But all of these new additions won’t detract from the glory of 58 Gin’s flagship spirit, Carmen says.Almost 2 years down the line, hard seltzers have established themselves in the country as one of the fastest growing product categories, and their small independent business is growing fast!
